The best outdoor restaurants in Belgravia, London
There’s nothing quite like a sudden burst of sunshine to coax Londoners out of winter hibernation and onto a chic alfresco terrace. As lighter evenings stretch on and balmier nights set in, people-watching from a sun-drenched street corner with a plate of something indulgent is a cherished city ritual. From leafy garden hideaways to buzzy pubs, these are the best outdoor restaurants in Belgravia.
La Poule au Pot, Ebury Street
If there’s a glimmer of sunshine on Ebury Street, you can bet your bottom dollar the pavement tables at La Poule au Pot are packed to the rafters. Considered a bit of a Belgravia institution, this sweet-as-a-button Parisian-style restaurant offers everything you’d expect (and more): Les escargots drizzled in garlic, steak frites, tarte tatin and, of course, plenty of perfectly chilled rosé.
The Thomas Cubitt, Elizabeth Street
The Thomas Cubitt is prime territory for Belgravia people-watching and there’s always a low buzz here, especially when the sun hits just right. Nab a spot outside, order a perfectly poured pint and shuck some just-caught oysters smothered in shallot mignonette. If you’re coming on a weekend, the Sunday roasts will leave you rolling home.
Weezie's, Eccleston Yards
A new kid on the Eccleston Yards block (from the team behind Amie wine bar), Weezie’s is already becoming a fun neighbourhood hangout when you want something easy and chilled. Thin-crust pizza is its thing, alongside small plates (antipasti, loaded crisps, homemade dips), pints of Guinness and plenty of Amie wine, with a terrace that spills into the Yard.
Morena, Eccleston Yards
Another Eccleston Yards hotspot, we adore Morena, for its daily £6 happy hour (Monday-Friday) and easy-breezy brunch dishes best enjoyed by kicking back in the chic green striped seats on its sunny Belgravia terrace. If brunch is on the cards, it’s the pina colada pancakes you want, and come dinnertime, the Wagyu steak and shoestring fries, just saying.
Wild by Tart, Eccleston Yards
When you want your supper washed down with a cracking atmosphere, Eccleston Yards is your spot. Under festoon lights, Wild by Tart is big on sustainable produce and healthy, fresh dishes and a riot of fun for a post work dinner outside. Sip on Tart’s rhubarb Margaritas or pomegranate Bellinis, tucking into a sharing feast of roast chicken and black garlic, followed by sticky treacle tart.
The Jones Family Kitchen, Eccleston Yards
Ok, carnivores, listen up. A London steak restaurant with a bloomy outdoor terrace? You better make a beeline to The Jones Family Kitchen, pronto. Grass-fed British cattle from their own organic farm as well as from the likes of The Ginger Pig and Aubrey Allen, all dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days, you are going to want to come hungry.
The Garden Room at The Lanesborough, Hyde Park Corner
For something a touch more polished and away from the hubbub of Hyde Park Corner, The Lanesborough’s newly unveiled Garden Room is your Belgravia go-to. Surrounded by lush greenery, this covered terrace is serving up a range of tempting dishes - from seabass ceviche with yuzu, ginger and miso aioli to native lobster rolls and the hotel’s signature club sandwiches.
Cleo, Elizabeth Street
Cleo’s terrace brings a dose of glossy, Med-leaning glamour to Elizabeth Street. It’s fine-dining but not in a pretentious kind of way, with seasonal dishes; think strawberry sorrel salads, crispy sea bass burgers and tagliatelle di mare that were made for alfresco dining, with a steady steam of Aperol Spritzs to boot.
Le Café Nac, Motcomb Street
It’s diddy here and operates on a walk-ins basis only so be prepared to hover for a seat outside on a balmy day. From breakfast burritos to lunchtime tuna melts and black truffle rigatoni, everyone leaves happy at Le Café Nac, even more so if you have space for the crushed milk chocolate cookies and rice krispies soft serve for pudding.
Chucs, Eccleston Street
With its sweeping wraparound terrace, Chucs has one of the loveliest spots for outdoor dining in Belgravia. Whether you’re popping by for a mid-morning coffee or settling in for its famous crab linguine or veal Milanese, with a large glass of something crisp and cold to hand, it’s all too easy to while away an entire afternoon here (suncream advised, folks).
The Alfred Tennyson, Motcomb Street
The Alfred Tennyson is a proper Belgravia hotspot where you’re guaranteed lively surroundings which naturally means the outdoors tables are fiercely coveted when the weather turns. The pub food hits all the right notes - Scotch eggs, duck croquettes, crispy battered haddock and chips, while you’ll find more refined dishes served upstairs in Alf’s.
The Orange, Pimlico Road
A cluster of tables and pretty blooms outside The Orange catches the best of the Pimlico Road sunshine, making it a magnet on warm days. Food is very much Mediterranean inspired with British produce - the Iberico pork skewers and wood-fired pizzas are a favourite for those feasting alfresco. If a sweet treat beckons, the seasonal soft-serve can do no wrong.
